What's in a name?
'My name is Manikuntala Purkayastha',
'Excuse me?'
'Come again?'
'Im sorry but I dint get ur name...?'
'Manikun..wha???'
'Is it ok if i call u Mani?'
'Is it the only name you've got?'
'Okk.. so u r Mani Kuntala?'
'what Kuntala??'
I shudder to remember the various pronunciations n interpretations n spellings of my 2nd name...so I'll not even go further down tht road...
If u've ever asked me my name , n after my tellin u, u dint reply as any of the above.. or anything similar to the above.. then im pretty sure u were really not much interested in getting acquainted with me.. coz its not possible tht u got my name absolutely correct the first time i told u. :)
Something Ive learned in my 22 years of earthly existence...
Apart frm the 'n' interpretations of my name..... i also get very 'original' puns regardin the syllables ma-ni , off late interpretated as the root of all evil - 'money'.
Sentences like ..
' Freshers shouldnt run after mani....(read money).. bcause mani can be attained later in life'
' Mani comes and mani goes'
' I want mani and fame'
' Mani is wht mani does'
..............................................................can't remember the rest at this moment.. n trust me.. there are a lot more...hehehhe
neway this was sumthing i felt like sharing in my very first blog..:):)
ANy other one liners u can think of.. feel free to tell me..
hheheh ..

my my... me really jealous.. you have real vocal friends. You write one stupid post and and there are 5 comments! has to be a record or something ;)
oops... before you start feeling happy for creating a record or something let me clarify... the record i allude to here is the fact that u have more comments than the number of posts and btw i too had that distinction.. look at my first post ;)
ahem...ahem... what about the "stump"? :-)

Hi Thursday's Child, I am Ocean Spray here. I see you have left a comment on my blog. How did you find it?
U bet the name is so difficult, i have been trying for a month now just to pronounce it right..... still not getting it !!
Well I can understand your situation...i have the same problem. My problem is first they cannot pronounce my name, second -- they are confused if it is a male name or a female name, and third -- people out here think I am a Muslim because my surname is Majumdar.
There is a benefit also, people tend to remember you more than others because you have a different and typical name. So enjoy your popularity...........
great as a first blog n as expected in the first one it is an attempt to make yourself comfortable with your readers. like the way you have talked about yourself. sending you a one liner about MANI that my grandpa used to use a lot to illustrate peoples like for MANI...
"MANI IS LIKE HONEY"
keep writing!!! CHEERS
Just came across your blog, hilarious!!!! Trust me, i've kinda grown used to this confusion, mis pronunciation of names is what many of us are still dealing with....:-)
Kip writing and shining....
Well I could a religious intonation to your name it would sound like "Om Mani Padme Hum" , the famous Buddhist chant , here Mani referring to the wheel - the prayer wheel , as they say everything is a matter of perspective ... :)
Very gud....
